Loonie's value drops, stock markets lower Friday morning



TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down sharply and stock markets declined moderately Friday morning.

The loonie traded at 75.19 cents US, down 0.75 from Thursday's close.
Toronto's S&P/TSX composite index was down 70.78 points at 13,488.9. On Thursday, it fell 103.04 points.

The Dow Jones average of 30 stocks was down 64.07 points at 17,799.36, the broader S&P 500 index declined 12.74 points to 2,067.19 and the Nasdaq lost 21.38 points to 5,106.36.

On the commodity markets, the December gold contract fell $16.90 to US$1,087.30 an ounce, the December crude contract was down 90 cents at US$44.30 a barrel and the December contract for natural gas was down four cents at US$2.33.
