TOKYO (Jiji Press) — A minor tsunami was observed after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Japan early Saturday morning.
A tsunami of about 30 centimeters was recorded on Nakanoshima, part of the Tokara island chain in Kagoshima Prefecture, at 6:45 a.m.
The quake, which struck around 5:51 a.m., measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the city of Kagoshima and the town of Shiraishi in Saga Prefecture.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries from the quake, according to the Kagoshima prefectural government.
