TE Connectivity Named Thomson Reuters 2015 Top 100 Global Innovator for Fifth Consecutive Year

TE Connectivity (TE) was named Thomson Reuters 2015 Top 100 Global Innovator for the fifth consecutive year, recognising its achievements as one of the world leaders in innovation. The programme, an initiative of the IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters, honours 100 corporations and institutions around the world that are at the heart of innovation as measured by a series of proprietary patent-related metrics.

Innovation is a core value of TE, figuring out how to design and manufacture the smart connectors, sensors and components critical in a more connected world. In addition to developing TE's engineer talents, TE supports the innovative potential of the wider engineering community in China. TE and the Electronic Technology Information Research Institute (ETIRI), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, have jointly released the "2015 China Engineers' Innovation Index" (the "Index"). The Index provides a comprehensive overview of Chinese engineers' innovation status for the past year. It also discusses the challenges in innovation and notable achievements of Chinese engineers.


Innovation is Motivated with Support from Government and Enterprises

The Index suggested an increased passion for innovation over the past year. Countrywide, structural improvements at both the national and enterprise levels have played a significant role. Inside organisations, the improving professional and innovation capabilities of the engineers became the key factors. In detail:

- Eighty seven per cent of respondents said that they are somewhat or highly interested in innovative activities, which demonstrates that the majority engineers would like to uncover their own innovation capabilities and find their self-worth in this profession

- The satisfaction level from engineeers to national innovation policy, and to the innovation environment are 136.20 and 140.10, respecitvely, both higher than the standard base value of 100. The data illustrates that engineers have a positive view of the policy landscape and the innovation environment created by enterprises.

- The improvement of the enterprise innovation environment is one of the essential external elemtns inspiring engineering innovation. More than 63 per cent of engineers indicated that a collaborative team atmosphere and incentives are vital components for inspiring innovation. Additionally, the adoption of a flexible management model that allows engineers more first-hand exposure and decision-making increases the chances of successful innovation.

- In terms of additional steps to advance innovation, 59 per cent of engineers indicated that strengthened intellectual property would have a positive impact on innovation; 61 per cent of engineers felt that increasing research funding is also an effective means to inspire innovation.
